While having a 2 days task in Muadzam Shah, Pahang, I had the opportunity of staying in this resort which is situated 57km away from Muadzam Shah. I don’t even know why the organizer choose this resort as I guess that there are no well-established hotel available in Muadzam town area. Everyday I need to drive +/- 2 hours to and fro.
Well, let’s talk about the resort. A day before I checked in into the resort ( 31 March 2008 ), I did a quick surveyed of the resort via their webpage. I wanted to know the exact location of the resort (as I need to drive to the location for the first time) and I also looking for some infos on what activities that the resort can offer to myself within that 2 days period. The webpage looks very impressive even, congratulations to the developer of the webpage. Stunning interactive multimedia presentation and offering lots of infos. By looking at the webpage, I was eager to visit the resort and planned some activities that I wanted to do.
To go to Rompin, Pahang from Melaka, firstly I need to drive to the Muadzam’s highway. From Melaka, I drove to Tangkak and Segamat before headed out to Muadzam’s Highway. Tangkak – Segamat road is a ‘pressuring’ road as it is not a straight road. If a heavy vehicle is in front of us, then we will have the difficulty to overtake as the layout of the road is 90% covered with cornering / bending. And the chances of driving only 50 km/h is high as lots of lorries are using this road especially lorries that transporting products that related to Palm Oil.
Muadzam to Rompin will take about another 40 minutes to 1 hour drive and the road is a very convenient straight road with less traffic. I reached Summerset Resort somewhere at 5pm and went straight to the lobby for checking in purposes. The main building of the resort is huge with colonial architecture style design. As it is huge, the gap between floor and ceiling are very wide. I can see that the housekeeping department is having a problem with their high-dusting task. Lots of visible cob-webs can be seen everywhere all over the high ceiling. It was not a good first impression to guest.
The room that I took cost about RM250 ++ per nite with breakfast. The interior design of the room is okay, standard design for a hotel as I expected the interior will be designed more towards the colonial concept. The bathroom/toilet is clean. Air-condition facility is well function. 1 pillow being assigned and put on a single bed but as I was looking for a 2nd pillow (which usually in most of the resort/hotel will be placed inside the main closet), it was not available. On the 2nd day, after the housekeeping team did their services, they did not even top-up the tea/coffee/sugar. Is it only a 1 time complementary?
As a muslim, we need to performs our prayers and there is no indicator of Qiblat inside the room and we need to call up the reception counter to ask about the Qiblat direction. Usually in most of hotels/resorts, the Qiblat indicator will be available on the ceiling (there will be a proper arrow mark) but in this hotel, the Qiblat sign was being placed/glued inside a drawer of the main make-up table.
I did asked my colleague to bring over a couple of tennis racket as in was stated in the webpage that one of the facilities available here is a tennis court. Unlucky for us, the tennis court has been converted to become a Futsal field.
Most of the facilities are not in a well maintained conditioned and needs lots of improvement.
How about the food? Well, what I can say is that the food is just okay. Not something that is deliciously different in both taste and presentation. The front liner of the service team (waiter/waitress/captain etc.), are not doing / giving their best service to the guest as when I asked for a ‘match’ / ‘lighter’, they were looking for it at one of their service counter and came back to me with a ‘NO’ answer. Is it very difficult to find a ‘match’ for a guest?
The only good about this resort is the scenery that its can offered as it was situated inside a beautiful natural landscape compound. A few natural lake/pond available here offerings great view. Also the Security Guard here is very friendly and acted like a Guest Relation/Public Relation Officer to all the guest. I highly salute the Security Guard Department for this.
Overall, I will rate this resort 2.0/5.0. For the resort management, please improve the services and facilities as what that can be seen on the webpage. I bet that if the resort is identical as claimed via the webpage, this resort will become one of best resort available here in Pahang / even Malaysia.
I did managed to snapped some good photos here as below :-
