Parit Sulong – Highlights

I came back from Parit Sulong on Sunday. Reached Melaka somewhere at 2pm and I went straight to Mahkota Parade to shops for a pair of shoes.

The road from Melaka to Parit Sulong is now getting better. The traveling time is much more shorter as the new Melaka to Muar highway at least minimize the whole traveling time by 20 to 30 minutes.

Road from Muar after the new bridge is kinda bumpy all the way until the t-junction where you should take the left turn to go to Batu Pahat / Parit Sulong. This road also hosted many traffic lights, I think it is more than 5 traffic lights. These conditions will slower your speed and a bit dangerous if you are a fast driver.

Then the Simpang Lima road (both entrances) is now in bad condition. The upgrading of the road is now taking place so lots of holes and sands can be found on the road.

In Parit Sulong, I managed to hunt for ‘Ayam Hutan’ or ‘Wild Forest Cockerel’ with my in-laws on the first night I was there. We entered an oil palm estate somewhere at 8pm and started our hunting activity. Its kinda creepy as the condition was totally black-out and we were 100% reallying on our torchlights. That night we managed to get 3 birds. At 1030pm we called it a day and went back home. It’s my first experience in hunting and I guess I was not too excited that night due to the fact that I was a little bit nervous as I did not bring any weapon at all. So, when we got separated, some sounds from the woods really made me worried as I can clearly saw some wild boars foot prints that night. Without weapon, I can only pray so that I won’t be disturbed by any wild animals, whatever animal in the dark oil palm estate. My in-law was using an air rifle-like gun as a weapon that night.

The next day, we went to fished at Hutan Lipur Sungai Bantang, a waterfall spot, 1 1/2 hours drive from Parit Sulong. I did not managed to catch any fish that day but my in-laws caught approximately around 18 to 20 small size fish. I think I only fished for about 1 hour, while they were fishing (fully concentrate) for more than 4 hours. The rest of my time I was enjoying the beautiful scenery and environment of the natural rainforest, the waterfall and did lots of photographies. The local called this place as ‘Air Terjun Bekok’ and I also managed to interviewed one of the friendly hawker that had been doing his business here for more than 5 years. He did mentioned that the are still lots of wild animals can be found inside the jungle especially tigers and elephants. My personal view of ‘Air Terjun Bekok’ is that this is a great place to bring your family members for a picnic and even for tourist to explore the natural waterfall plus the rainforest. The only setback was the public toilet was so dirty and the state government or the Perhutanan Malaysia should really take care of the toilet facilities here to make it one of a perfect tourist spot here in Johor.
