If you are an angler and happens to be in Langkawi either for your vacation or business, there are many fishing spots in Langkawi that you can do fishing. Nevertheless, not all places is suitable for fishing either.

One good spot to go is at Tekor Island or local called it Pulau Tekoq. This island is just a less than 10 minutes boat ride from the main Langkawi Island. The island is still undeveloped and host natural rain forest and clean beaches.

How to go there? Well, firstly we must go to Lanai Beach which is situated near to Pantai Cenang and Pantai Tengah. At Lanai beach, you may find a few water-sport operators that offering services like rental of jetski, banana boat ride and speed boat riding. Approach them and asked them to take you to Tekor Island. With RM5.00 per person, the operator will take you to Tekor Island by boat and once reached the Island, set the time for them to pick you up back to the main island. Don’t worry, they won’t left you stranded in Tekor Island. I had took their service more than 3 times even. You may even call them to pick you up as mobile phone coverage is still available at Tekor Island.

Once the operator drop you on the island, move towards left. Move as far as you can carefully towards the rocky part of the island. I would say that it will be a 20 to 30 minutes walking.

This spot is a grouper’s heaven. The size of grouper here is in range of 300 grams to 2 kilos. The picture above is taken during one of my fishing trip here in Tekor. Person on the right is my relative, he caught a good size grouper that the local called it “Kerapu Panau”

Before deciding to go and fish here, asked local or even the water-sport operator on how good is this place still, as recently I heard that small anchovies vessel already begins to enter the area with their fishing net. If this is the case, then the fish stock here might reduce. Hopefully the story is not true.
